POLICE presence across Berkshire was high this week from incidents involving machetes to the sad news of a body being found.

Here are the incidents which required police attention this week:

On Monday, February 27, it was announced that a body was found at a field in Berkshire but identification had not yet taken place.

Thames Valley Police confirmed that a man had been found dead at White Heart Meadow, near Theale, at about 6pm on the Sunday, February 26.

He was found by a member of the public who subsequently reported it the police.

Identification of the man was still ongoing at the start of the week, according to police, but officers are not treating the death as suspicious at the time.

However, a post-mortem report will be carried out soon to determine the cause of death.

A statement from Thames Valley Police said: “Officers were called to White Heart Meadow, near Theale, at around 6pm on Sunday to reports of a body being found in woodland by members of the public.

“Officers attended and a man was sadly confirmed to be deceased. Work is ongoing at this stage to identify the man.

“At this time there appear to be no obvious suspicious circumstances, however a post-mortem will be conducted in due course.”

Also on Monday, two men were arrested after officers saw them with a machete in Reading.

The incident happened in George Street at about 2.20pm which saw the street and Oxford Road closed off by police.

The men, both in their 20s, have been arrested and remain in custody.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “Officers saw two men with a machete in George Street, Reading at 2.20pm today.

“Officers followed them to Oxford Road where officers, supported by armed officers, detained the men and seized the weapon.

“Two men in their twenties, both from Reading, were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. They remain in custody.”

This week, a video surfaced on Twitter on of what appeared to be a ‘gang attack’ on a residential street – captured on film by a brave neighbour.

The video, which was captured in the early hours of February 25, shows up to eight masked people surrounding a silver Audi on Regent Street.

They appear to hit the vehicle, which is still running, on its wing mirrors and bonnet as well as smashing the windows with the weapons.

No one appears to be inside the vehicle at the time despite it running.

Police have confirmed they are aware of the incident are still investigating.
