A lorry driver has been handed a hefty fine after parking on the hard shoulder of the M4.
The vehicle was spotted on Wednesday, March 8, near the westbound Membury services between Junctions 14 and 15 on the county border.
Snow had fallen across the region in the early hours, leading to treacherous driving conditions.
Officers did not take kindly to the vehicle being parked where it was, especially given the adverse weather.
#RPU at Membury Westbound noticed this HGV parked on the hard shoulder. It's not a lawful place to stop for a break, even in good weather conditions. We couldn't find a driver card in the tacho either = £300 fine. pic.twitter.com/Un1i0qs8mE

Wiltshire Police's Roads Policing Unit said in a tweet: “It's not a lawful place to stop for a break, even in good weather conditions.”
After finding the illegally parked HGV by the road, officers investigated the vehicle and found that there was no driver card in the tachograph - the machine that registers how far a driver has travelled and how many hours they have been driving for.
It is to ensure they do not break legal limits designed to ensure safety on the roads.
A £300 fine has since been issued to the driver.
