SIX men from across Berkshire have been jailed during the first week of April.

From murder to the importation of illegal drugs, here is everyone who was sent behind bars in the past week:

Two men was jailed for their involvement in helping transport an estimated 1,000 kilos of cannabis into the UK from Spain.

Stephen Gamble, 52, of Oriental Road, Ascot, and Darren Finch, 52, of Silvan Road, St Leonards-on-Sea were sentenced at Reading Crown Court on April 4 to five years and six and a half years respectively.

The court heard that Gamble played a ‘leading role’ by using his skills and expertise in importation paperwork from his previous legitimate business to import the drugs.

Finch played a ‘middleman’ role by putting Gamble in touch with the drug dealers who wanted to import.

Omar Chaudhry, 27, of no fixed abode, has been imprisoned for 12 years on April 4 after pleading guilty to stabbing a father-of-four in Baylis Park, Slough on December 20, 2021.

The 27-year-old had approached the man and asked for a cigarette before the attack happened. Reading Crown Court heard that the dog walker suffered from 300ml of blood loss, a collapsed lung and bleeding into the chest cavity.

A pathologist said if the man had not received medical attention he could have died.

Chaudhry was initially charged on one count of attempted murder which went to trial. However, the proceedings collapsed due to an illness and Chaudhry pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm on the first day of retrial.

Riaz Miah, 21, of no fixed abode, and Hassan Al-Kubanji , 22, of Peabody Avenue, London, were sentenced to life for stabbing Mohammed Rafaqit Kayani, 24, in the chest during an incident in Keel Drive on August 30 last year.

Miah was sentenced to a minimum term of 24 years imprisonment for murder. He was also sentenced to a concurrent sentence of four and a half years for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and a concurrent sentence of two years for possession of a bladed weapon – both of which he pleaded guilty to.

Al-Kubanji was sentenced to a minimum term of 23 years imprisonment for murder. He was acquitted of two counts of supplying Class A drugs and possession of a bladed weapon in a public place.

The pair will have the time they were in custody - 216 days - removed from their minimum sentence.

Miguel Parian John, 42, of Concorde Way, Slough, was given a 16-month jail sentence for assisting Miah and Al-Kubanji in hiding the two machetes involved in the murder.

He was sentenced for assisting an offender and two six months sentences for possession of a bladed article to run concurrently.

Due to the amount of time John has been in custody, he may be due for release by next month where he will be on post-sentence supervision.
