AN ELDERLY man's body has been found in the River Thames following an 'extensive search' yesterday.
Thames Valley Police were called to Henley yesterday (April 7) at around 11.20am, to reports of a body in the water.
Emergency services from the Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service and South Central Ambulance Service responded immediately to the report and an extensive search commenced.
The body of a man, aged 91, was located in the water by the fire service and recovered a short time later.
The footpath was shut between the Leander and Henley rowing clubs.
His next of kin have been informed and supported by police officers, Thames Valley Police said. Formal identification of the man’s body is yet to be done.
Thames Valley Police said the man’s death was being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner,” a spokeswoman said.
Detective Constable Rachel Pithers, based at Loddon Valley police station, said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this incredibly difficult time.
“I would like to thank the emergency services who assisted our officers in locating the man.”
