THOUSANDS of people across the country came together, on May 5, to sing "Defender Of Us All" a song composed by two Bucklebury musicians for the King's coronation.

Pupils at Eagle House prep school, Sandhurst, were among thousands to video themselves singing the coronation song - A song that the Princess of Wales called "fantastic".

Daniel and Sandra Nicholls, from Bucklebury, wanted to break the world record for simultaneous singing, by bringing the nation together 11am on Friday, May 5.

Unfortunately, application regulations with Guinness World Record stopped this mission, but that did not stop schools from singing.

Sandra and Daniel said: "We were so disappointed (as were the thousands of children and staff who had planned to take part) but they carried on valiantly and sang the song at 11am on May 5th purely for the pleasure of singing!

"Thousands upon thousands of children across the nation eagerly joined in singing it at the same time and it was also performed at Gloucester Cathedral."

A video, made by Eagle House prep school, shows the Sandhurst pupils joining in with "real enthusiasm".

Director of Music at Eagle House School, Charlotte McCarthy, said: "We wanted to mark King Charles' Coronation by joining together and singing 'Defender of Us All' written by local composers Sandra and Daniel.

"It gave us a great reason to gather on our front sports field and make the shape of a crown with all Eagle House staff and pupils, aged from 3 to 13.

"Everyone sang the piece with real enthusiasm, and we were delighted with how the film came together. The children loved taking part and it was great fun learning and singing the song."

The Bucklebury duo have been teaching music and music theory in Bucklebury for nearly 40 years, including giving piano lessons to the Middleton’s.
