Hundreds of eateries have popped up throughout Reading over the years, but non more so that those good old American fast food chains.
As they hit the international scene, more and more restaurant chains are making their way to England, and essentially away from their London branch into different areas of the UK.
The latest fast-food chain that has moved to Reading after setting up a number of restaurants and drive thru’s across England is Popeyes.
Many of these popular eateries were founded in America and their growth expands across the continents before reaching the UK.
We asked our readers which American restaurant chains they would like to see come to Berkshire.
The list of restaurants and takeaways that were listed ranged from popular chains that span the length of the US to more obscure eateries.
Chain’s like IHOP and the Cheesecake Factory were popular choices which people put on their list.
Even if one hasn’t visited an American IHOP, the pancakes that are served are legendary across the globe. It is also one that hasn’t reached the UK and remains an American tradition of maple glazed pancakes.
For anyone who has visited the US, the Cheesecake Factory is a surreal experience that offers more food than even the most enthusiastic eater could manage.
Steve Ferris however recommended Waffle House as a better alternative to IHOP.
Other restaurants however are not as well known to the people across the UK who haven’t travelled to the US.
Timothy ‘Penfold’ Fraser suggested: “Sizzler, Ponderosa, Bennigans, Boston lobster feast, and definitely IHOP.”
The Red Lobster and Steak ‘n’ Shake were also popular with readers.
Some Reading residents however were of the opposite opinion. With a decline in the economy over the last few years, opening a local restaurant in a town or city has been a challenging endeavour.
However, Erica Fortune for example said that she would prefer to see more local restaurants.
