A woman has been rushed to hospital after falling down a trench on a busy road.
Workers on behalf of The Electricity Network Company Limited had begun digging trenches into Reading Road near the Wokingham Station car park.
Just after lunchtime yesterday (May 25) a woman is believed to have fallen into the ditch.
Alarm was raised and police, fire services and an ambulance were called to the scene.
The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service was alerted of the incident at 1:30pm and crews from Wokingham and Wokingham Road Fire Stations were sent to the scene.
A spokesperson from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Upon arrival, crews extricated a woman from the ditch and placed her in the care of South Central Ambulance Service."
The works, believed to be the laying of new cables, began on Monday, May 22 and will finish on Friday, June 2.
