A BUSINESS is uncertain about its future after devastating fire damages "the entire shop".

Crews from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Cmart Oriental Foods on Friar Street after 2pm on Friday, May 26.

A total of 50 firefighters, 10 fire engines, one aerial compliance and one command vehicle were on hand to tackle the blaze.

Emergency services were on the scene for more than 24 hours.

In a statement on its website, Cmart said: “Dear valued customers, We regret to inform you that our Cmart store has experienced extensive damage as a result of a devastating fire that occurred on Friday, May 26th.”

The Chinese supermarket has said the fire caused “significant destruction to the entire premises” so the shop is “inaccessible”.

“We are currently awaiting the assessment of the building structure, and the repair process is expected to take weeks, if not months”, the post continued.

Cmart said it is “uncertain whether we will be able to reopen in same location or if we will need to find a new site.”

The store is thanking its customers during the difficult time: "We understand that this uncertainty may cause inconvenience to our loyal customers, and we sincerely apologize for any disruption caused."
