In a statement on its website, CMart said: “Dear valued customers, We regret to inform you that our CMart store has experienced extensive damage as a result of a devastating fire that occurred on Friday, May 26th.”

The Chinese supermarket has said the fire caused “significant destruction to the entire premises” so the shop is “inaccessible”.

“We are currently awaiting the assessment of the building structure, and the repair process is expected to take weeks, if not months”, the post continued.

CMart said it is “uncertain whether we will be able to reopen in same location or if we will need to find a new site.”
