A ‘school street’ serving three schools in Reading could be made permanent.
School Streets involve the closure of streets with schools on them to drivers to encourage parents and guardians to walk or cycle to the school with the children.
The closures are marshalled by volunteers responsible for diverting traffic and making sure the school street operates safely.
Part of Crescent Road in East Reading has been a school street for 16 months but only on a temporary basis.
The school street serves Alfred Sutton Primary School, Maiden Erlegh School in Reading and UTC Reading.

It was established in February 2022, initially for a six-month trial period and only for morning pupil drop offs.
Then in November that year, the school street was established for the pupil collection period after school as well.
The Crescent Road school street is now set to be made permanent by Reading Borough Council at a meeting of its traffic management sub-committee on Wednesday, June 14.
A consultation undertaken by the council revealed that 66.7 per cent of respondents support making the scheme permanent.
Members of the traffic management sub-committee will receive a report by council officers on the school street scheme and are set to vote to make it permanent.
