A WOMAN has told a jury that she didn’t know she had been ‘raped’ until forensic evidence was provided.

Two men are on trial at Reading Crown Court charged with the rape of a woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, in Reading.

She told the courtroom that she woke up on October 29, 2020 to find Abdallah Sy, 43, of Gabriels Square, Earley, raping her at about 3am and Godwin Tsakadi, 50, of Prince of Wales Avenue, Reading, watching from the corner.

Police were called at about 3.05pm and Abdallah was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of rape and one count of sexual assault.

Tsakadi was also arrested and charged with one count of rape after his DNA was found following tests performed on the woman.

Both men have denied the offences.

On Thursday (June 15), the woman took to the witness stand and told the jury that Abdallah had first allegedly sexually assaulted her on October 11 following a night out at O’Neills pub.

She said she woke up at a friend’s house to find Abdallah touching her breasts and sliding her hand in her underwear.

Over two weeks later, she stayed at the same friend’s house after going out drinking and woke up at 3am to allegedly find Abdallah on top of her.

She said: “I must have been sleeping in a deep sleep. When you wake up you experience grogginess sometimes. When I realised what was happening, I was then awake.

“I am sure I was woken up by [Abdallah] raping me. I know exactly what happened when I woke up.”

Abdallah’s defence barrister asked why she would see Abdallah a second time if he had sexually assaulted her.

She said “I don’t think that is a very fair question to ask me. I wasn’t feeling unsafe with him at that time in order to say to [a mutual friend] I want to hang out with you but [Abdallah] can’t be there.”

After reporting the alleged incidents to the police and having forensic testing done, the woman told the court she found out Godwin’s DNA was on her body the following January.

“That was the first time I was aware that something must have happened with Godwin on that night,” she said.

Godwin’s defence lawyer argued that the woman had had consensual sex with Godwin after having ‘disappointing’ consensual sex with her friend who’s house she was staying at.

He said: “Did the way that [sex] end leave you wanting to have sex with someone else? I’m going to suggest when Godwin came back into the flat…you then told him you wanted to f*** him. Then you have consensual sex.”

The woman denied this. “This didn’t happen,” she said. “Everything you just said was a lie.”

He asked the woman how [Addalluh] allegedly raping her woke her up but Godwin didn’t. “It must have been a deep sleep,” he said.

The woman responded: “Yes that is true.” The trial continues.
