Hundreds of shoppers were evacuated today (7/8) following a chip shop fire at Broad Street Mall.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident in Reading after receiving reports of the fire in a commercial premises at 11:22 am.
Fire crews from Theale, Caversham Road, and Whitley Wood were sent to the scene, alongside an Officer.
During the evacuation of shoppers and staff, the security team from the Broad Street Mall was applauded for their effectiveness and help as vulnerable people made their way to the exit.
The area of Oxford Road was closed off as the crews attended to the fire using two hose reels.
According to RBFRS, there were no reports of injuries.
