SEVERAL defendants have been jailed this week after their hearings at Reading Crown Court.

Here are some examples of the cases heard in court this week which has ended in a jailed sentence:

TWO men have been jailed for their involvement in the barricading of a flat, throwing missiles at police, setting fires, and causing a school to be closed.

Vuitton Robbins, 18, known as Tom, and Akay Coaker, 20, were sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Friday (August 4) for several counts of thefts, burglary, and violent disorder offences.

A third defendant, Reiss James, 21, was also due to be sentenced but his hearing has been adjourned due to the delay in obtaining a pre-sentence report.

The violent disorder incident occurred on December 8, 2022, at flat 145A on Caversham Road. Police had arrived at the address to arrest the three men for a string of bike and electric bike thefts across Berkshire and Oxfordshire.

However, the men resisted arrest by barricading the door and beginning to launch missiles at police with Robbins being the main instigator, according to the Crown, and Reiss providing him support.

AN arsonist has been jailed after setting alight to bins, wooden reels, a tree, cardboard and more causing £140k of damage.

Michael Britt, 54, previously of Pevensey Road, Slough was sentenced on Thursday (August 3) at Reading Crown Court to five years and one month in jail for 10 counts of arson and one count of possession of a controlled drug of class B, namely cannabis.

The court heard that Britt had been connected to several incidents of arson, including a fire outside Mr Cod in Farnham Road on April 16 last year.

A MAN has been jailed for eight years after attempting to rape a foreign student in a Reading alleyway and then attempting to flee the country.

Sagar Gurung, 27, followed the complainant, who had only been in England for several months when the incident took place, back to her student accommodation in the early hours on November 6, 2022.

He sexually assaulted her and attempted to rape her before booking a one-way ticket to Hong Kong three days later in ‘attempts to flee justice’.

At Reading Crown Court on Tuesday (August 8), Judge Hassan Khan sentenced him to eight years imprisonment for the main count of attempted rape, with an extended licence period of four years.
