AS pupils across Reading get their A-Level results today (August 17), we have delved into the best - and worst - secondary schools in the area.
The education watchdogs use a four-level rating system: Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement and Inadequate.
A school judged outstanding at its most recent inspection will typically receive an inspection every four years, to confirm that the school remains outstanding.
We have compiled a list of secondary schools in Reading and their Ofsted ratings:
Outstanding
Kendrick School, London Road - rated Outstanding in January 2023. The report states that "pupils and sixth formers are justly proud of their school community".
Maiden Erlegh School, Silverdale Road, Earley - rated Outstanding in March 2020. Ofsted said "pupils receive an excellent education at this school".
Reading School, Erleigh Road- rated Outstanding in March 2020. According to the Ofsted report, the boarding school provides "highly effective services that consistently exceed the standards of good".
Good
Blessed Hugh Faringdon Catholic School, Fawley Road - rated Good in October 2017. The report said "the school values and recognises each pupil as a unique, special individual who deserves the opportunity to learn and grow in a community where all are cared for."
Denefield School, Long Lane, Tilehurst - rated Good in February 2018. Ofsted said the school provides "strong and determined leadership aimed at ensuring a high-quality education for all pupils, regardless of their ability or circumstances".
Also rated Good was Highdown School, Surley Row, which was inspected in October 2018
Kings Academy, Cockney Hill, Tilehurst - rated Good in November 2022
Langtree School, Reading Road - rated Good in March 2023
Maiden Erlegh School, 81 Crescent Road - rated Good in July 2018
The Bulmershe School, Woodlands Avenue, Woodley - rated Good in November 2017
The Forest School, Robin Hood Lane, Winnersh - rated Good in September 2021
The Willink School, School Lane, Burghfield Common - rated Good in July 2018
The Wren School, Bath Road - rated Good in September 2018
Requires Improvement
John Madejski Academy, Hartland Road - rated Requires Improvement in September 2021. The school was initially rated Requires Improvement in October 2017, again in February 2020 and for a third time at its monitoring visit in September 2021.
Inadequate
UTC Reading, Crescent Road - rated Inadequate in March 2023. UTC went from Outstanding in 2015 to Inadequate in March this year. The report claimed that some pupils "feel badly let down" by the school.
