Co-op Reading reopening date set after refurb closure

The convenience shop in Erleigh Road, East Reading, closed in mid-to-late July for an improvement project.

The closure has meant shoppers have had to go to Cemetery Junction for their nearest Co-op, with the Erleigh Road store currently sealed off and its cashpoint inaccessible.

Co-op bosses have revealed the renewed store is now set to reopen on Friday, September 1.

Looking forward to the reopening, Manmohan Gill, co-op store manager, said: “We are extremely proud to be relaunching our Erleigh Road store with a fresh new-look and an increased offer.

“We have worked hard to develop product ranges and services that will create a really compelling offer for the community and provide an even more convenient, quality way to shop than before.”

Once it’s back, services such as its in-store bakery, Costa Coffee dispenser, hot plate and free 24-hour cashpoint will be restored.

The Co-op will be open between 7am-11pm each day.

Prior to its closure, delivery cyclists could regularly be seen picking up customers’ orders, and that will continue, with groceries being available online through the Co-op’s Click & Collect service or through delivery via Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats.

The store employs 25 staff members, with a further position being created to support its activities.
