Changes to how buses and delivery vehicles move through Reading town centre are set to be made in under a year’s time.
Adaptations are being proposed as part of the redevelopment of Jacksons Corner.
The changes involve the current bus shelters in Kings Road being moved east to allow a loading bay for deliveries to be created, with a new bus stop being created outside the Reading Central Library building.

The new loading bay use would be restricted to 7pm to 7am overnight and 11am to 4pm during the day, with the space being used by buses outside of these times.
Meanwhile, the council is also seeking to make the direction of traffic clockwise in Abbey Square, create a loading bay near its junction with Kings Road, and move existing disabled bays further along Abbey Square.

These changes have been proposed by the council’s highways team using monetary contributions provided by the developers of Jacksons Corner.

The council has to make the changes by March 31, 2024.

But in order for the changes to go ahead, the council has to run a public consultation.

The consultation is currently being undertaken. You can take part by:

  • Filling in an online survey on the Consult Reading website
  • Emailing highway.objections@reading.gov.uk
  • Or writing to Highway Objections, Network Services, Highways & Traffic Services, Reading Borough Council, Civic Offices, Bridge Street, Reading RG1 2LU

Responses must be received by the end of Thursday, August 31.

The outcome of the consultation will be considered by councillors at a traffic management sub-committee meeting in September.
