1. 7 Bone Burger Co closes town centre restaurant

A popular town centre restaurant has announced that it will be relocating its current Reading premises.

Previously located on St Mary’s Butts, 7Bone is considered one of the best places to grab a dirty burger and a thick shake within Reading.

The restaurant will now join Phantom Brew on Unit 3. Meadow Road to open its new venue just outside the centre.

2. Wilko Reading staff say an emotional goodbye as store closes

Emotions were high as the customers and staff at Wilko Reading said an emotional goodbye after 12 years of service.

Located on Broad Street Mall, the popular discount hardware store was forced into administration last month after it came under pressure from weak consumer spending.

The Reading store is one of the last Wilko’s in the UK after weeks of worry and anticipation surrounding the closure.

3. Berkshire pubs named among the best in the UK by Good Beer Guide 2024

A total of 80 pubs and breweries in Berkshire have been named among the very best in the UK for a pint.

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has published its annual Good Beer Guide, revealing the 4500 best places across the UK for having a pint of beer.

Dozens of pubs and breweries across the Berkshire region were included in the guide – the foreword of which detailed the “incredibly difficult” economic climate facing the pub industry, with CAMRA Chairman Nik Atona adding: “We need more support than ever before to keep our nation’s pubs and breweries open and thriving.

4. New headteacher for Pangbourne College September 2024

Meet Pangbourne College’s new headteacher: Mr Oliver Knight who will take over the role in September 2024.

Mr Knight will be taking the place of Mr Thomas Garnier, who will be stepping down in July 2024 after 19 years of dedicated service. 

Mr Knight transformed his previous school Phoenix Academy. It was in Special Measures when he arrived and was the lowest-performing school in London. Read full story here 

5. Football finance expert predicts Reading FC valuation

Reading Chronicle:

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has estimated Reading's value at £20m-£25m as Dai Yongge puts the club on the market.

A statement released by the club on Friday evening confirmed that the Chinese business was 'openly inviting further credible offers of interest and declarations of intent from parties eager to pursue a potential sale of the club.'

This marked a change, as previously the club had appealed for investors to support Yongge in funding the club, not replacing him.
