SEVERAL cases have been heard in Reading Crown Court this week, from a trial of facts to guilty verdicts, here are some of the cases we covered:

A BOY who was allegedly abused by a West Berkshire GP was ‘mortified’ and ‘cried himself to sleep’, a jury has heard.

Dr Robin Borthwick, 79, of Southend Road, Bradfield, has been charged with committing five counts of indecent assault on an eight-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The historic sexual offences are alleged to have been committed during the 1970s and 1980s at three locations; two in private properties in West Berkshire and also the GP surgery, Calcot Surgery.

A trial of facts has started at Reading Crown Court on Thursday (October 19) as Dr Borthwick has been declared unfit to stand trial.

A FORMER children's TV presenter faces a £100,000-plus after losing a court fight with her Bracknell neighbour over a 'property line' disagreement.

Gertrude Garrow is best known for starring on Ireland's 1980s children's show 'Bosco’, before later becoming an author and screenwriter.

The 77-year-old clashed with her neighbour, Gary Short, 57, after bringing in a mini-digger and a team of workers to uproot a hedgerow next to her £1.3million home - Brockhill Farm Cottages, Warfield.

A MAN who claimed he suffers from parasomnia has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a young girl.

David Diggins, of Junction Road, Reading, was guilty after a trial at Reading Crown Court by a jury of two counts of assault of a girl under 13 by touching.

The court heard that the 38-year-old touched the girl while the pair shared a bed between June 25 and June 26, 2021.

During closing statements on Wednesday (October 11), Diggins's defence lawyer said he was suffering from parasomnia at the time of the incident.

A MAN has been found guilty of seven counts of historic sexual abuse against a child in Slough which occurred about 40 years ago.

Philip Saunders, 67, was found guilty by a jury after trial at Reading Crown Court after being charged in September last with sexual abuse offences against a boy under the age of 16.

The offences happened between November 1982 and November 1985 in Slough.

Saunders was aged in his late 20s at the time and the complainant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was below 16 years old.

A TEENAGE girl has recalled how she felt ‘scared’ when a man allegedly cat-called her in the street on her way home from school.

She had been walking home from Langley Grammar School in Slough on March 2 last year when a man, walking in the opposite direction from her, reportedly said: “Hey baby girl” and “Can I get in your knickers?”

Philip Goldswain, 61, is now standing trial at Reading Crown Court charged with a sexual offence against another schoolgirl which allegedly occurred the day before.

He has not faced a charge for the alleged cat-calling incident but the teenager has given evidence in court to support the prosecution’s case against Goldswain.
