1. The Swan at Streatley ranked best hotel in Europe
A "chic" countryside hotel on the River Thames has been named the best renovated hotel in the UK, Europe and the Mediterranean.
The Swan at Streatley has bagged the award for its "carefully restored" 17th century inn.
Condé Nast Johansens, who presented the title as part of its awards for excellence, also commended the location of the hotel, situated on the "picturesque" River Thames in Berkshire’s Chiltern Hills.

2. Dangerously high air pollution in nearly all Reading neighbourhoods
Nearly all neighbourhoods in Reading are exposed to dangerously high air pollution, a new analysis has found.
Analysis from Friends of the Earth, an environmental organisation, shows more than 36.1 million people in England and Wales, including 8 million children, were breathing air with hazardous levels of nitrogen dioxide in 2022.
It comes as the Government announced it was pushing back the deadline for several environmental policies such as the ban on sales of new diesel and petrol cars, which are significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions.

3. Reading FC fans weigh up administration after rumours circulate
Reading fans have been left weighing up the impact of falling into administration after rumours circulated last week that it was an increasing possibility in the near future.
Anthony Smith, formerly of the Reading Chronicle, broke news last week that it was looking increasingly likely that the club would fall into administration soon.
This has been disputed by the manager, Ruben Selles, but is a topic that continues to play on the minds of supporters.

4. Woodley dance teacher Richard Still charged with child sex crimes
A WOODLEY dance company owner has been charged with child sex crimes.
Richard Still, director of Vibez Dance Ballroom and Latin School, appeared at Reading Magistrates' Court on Tuesday charged with eight offences.
The 38-year-old dance champion has been charged with forcing a child to look at sexual images, causing or inciting sexual exploitation of a child.

5. Long-lived Reading pub could have hotel added to it
One of the oldest lasting pubs in Reading could have new rooms added to it if its owner’s plan is given the go-ahead.
The Butler pub near the town centre dates back to the early 1800s, when it was called the Baker’s Arms, but by 1830 it was purchased by the Butler family and thereafter it became known as the Butler’s Wine Vaults.
The pub was designated Grade II-listed owing to its 200-plus year presence and unique frontage.
