Shoppers have reacted with fury to the news that a Bracknell car park is set to be knocked down because it's 'unsafe'.

As previously reported, Bracknell Forest Council has decided the multi-storey car park, based near the high street, needs to be demolished.

Drivers have been left concerned about what will replace the building, wondering if the council hopes to knock down the building to make way for flats.

For residents Laura Kidd and Shelley Townsend, the High Street car park contained parking which was always available when there were few spaces in the Lexicon and Princess Square.

Laura Kidd said: “The only mother and baby spaces were in that carpark now there is none”.

The soon-to-be-demolished car park was also a pickup point for Shop Mobility customers seeking mobility scooters and wheelchairs.

Shiela Roberts has asked: “In which car park are they going to put the dementia-friendly parking spaces?”

Although there is also a collection point in the Princess Square car park, it has cut down areas for less abled shoppers.

Now that it has been confirmed that this structure will be demolished, many readers have predicted that flats will replace it in the near future.

This is due to an increasing number of flats popping up across the town and surrounding areas.

One commenter said: “Can’t wait for one “affordable” flats the council will approve for the site.”

With house prices in Bracknell Forest constantly rising, Dale Clifton said: “Flats Incoming get your pre-orders in now. Oh wait the cheapest is £650K.”

Theresa Donaghue added: “I don’t think what us folks say or do you can bet your lives it is already done and dusted Maybe they might put more buses on for us so we won’t need too take our cars into the Lexicon.”
