This weekend marks the official end of Carter’s Steam Fair, a beloved local vintage funfair, as all rides have now been auctioned off to other attractions.
Fans have a final opportunity to see the rides at the White Waltham headquarters on Saturday, October 28, and Sunday, October 29 from 10 am to 10 pm. Entry is free.
In April 2022 Carters Steam Fair announced that they would be embarking on their final tour, and since then have done everything to raise awareness for the sale of the fair.
Instead of the entirety of the steam fair being bought, prospective buyers are now purchasing rides individually. The final auction of the fair was announced on Wednesday, September 27.
As previously reported, Joby Carter said: "Our goal was to find a new permanent home for the complete collection.
"Sadly, this has not been possible, and we have exhausted all options trying to find a buyer for the fair as a whole."
The weekend is also the first opportunity for people to buy Joby Carter’s second book ‘All the Fonts of The Fair’ where he discusses fairground art.
Fans can also buy remaining fairground merchandise as well as location posters which were used to tell people the fair was in town.
Jodie Humphries said: “We’ve found new homes for most of the rides, but they are still on display for one last photo opportunity.
“Visitors can see the Gallopers, Steam Yachts, Jungle Ark (which hasn’t been seen in a couple of years), mini train ride, and the Lightning Skid.”
