Fancy visiting somewhere extremely spooky this Halloween in Reading?
A new database outlining the most haunted places in the UK has found two places in Reading that claim to host paranormal activity.
The George Hotel in Pangbourne, featured in Roger Long's book 'Haunted Berkshire,' is said to be the home of many a ghostly sighting.
Whilst staying the night at the hotel, guests have reported seeing an elderly woman standing over them and wickedly smiling.
Many have also seen the woman, believed to have been a servant from many years ago, standing on the landing of the stairs looking back at them.
In this same position, multiple people have reported feeling a chill in the air - a common phenomenon with regard to supernatural activity.
Watlington House in central Reading also claims to house a certain ghostly effigy.
Visitors claim to have seen a ghoulish figure wearing a red uniform and smoking a pipe staring out of a window.
He is said to be Captain Edward Purvis who was the first recorded occupant of Watlington House in 1794, and fought at the Battle of Corunna in the Peninsular War.
Sightings of the Captain have also included reports of footsteps heard in upstairs rooms, and items being knocked off shelves as if by human hands.
