Children at Radstock School have been busy for the last few weeks making Remembrance Day poppies for a 'cascading poppy display.'
The display was put together by volunteers of the school PTA 'Friends of Radstock' with the help of the school caretaker Mr Blethyn who served as a Royal Engineer from 1984-1995.
The ‘poppy cascade’ is made out of entirely recyclable materials. Each poppy is made from an empty plastic bottle which is then carefully cut into a flower shape and painted red by each child.
The poppies were then added to the camouflage netting or a stand-alone stem. The end result was described by members of the PTA as a “fantastic achievement.”
Mr Blethyn added a finishing touch to the display by making a cut-out silhouette of a soldier.
The student’s poppy display can be viewed at the Front of the School gates to commemorate all the lives lost in the First and Second World Wars, as well as other conflicts and peacekeeping activities.
2023 marks the 40th Anniversary of the opening of the school, and both staff and students have lots of further events and activities planned to celebrate.
