15 Newbury locals raised £7000 when they completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge in memory of David ‘Geordie’ Marshall.
The group, which included Jason and Jasmine Marshall along with their son Callum, was made up of family and close friends of the late ‘Geordie’ Marshall.
A Just Giving page was set up prior to the hike with a target set at £5000, but Geordie’s family smashed this goal and have now raised £7000 for the Duchess of Kent Hospice in Reading.
Geordie, who received exceptional care from the hospice, sadly passed away in February 2023 after battling cancer for three years.
Earning his nickname through being a Geordie down south, Geordie has been described by the people who knew him as kind, caring, funny, and the life and soul of the party.
Jason Marshall, Geordie’s son, was very close to his father, and he also has five grandchildren.
Callum, 13, took part in the hike and was described by his mother Jasmine Marshall as “the fittest of us all. He was more bored than anything, waiting for us all to catch up.”
Despite the weather being against them, the group finished the hike in 12 hours. Geordie’s fiancé Lesley Hunter and his sister Tracey Marshall cheered them on when they returned.
