An Independent hairdressing salon Ruby Red in Reading’s town centre has won four major awards for the fourth year running.
The talented team of stylists walked away from this year’s Salon Awards with best salon team, best customer experience, and best colourist who was Ms Georgia Burgess.
The Salon Awards takes place every year in London and gives awards to salons from the north to the south of England.
The team at Ruby Red had also previously been awarded “best salon” at the National Hair and Beauty Awards just two months prior in September.
Hair and beauty “icon” Sophia Hilton hosted the awards and presented the team at Ruby Red with plaques to commemorate the achievement.
Co-owner of Ruby Red Mrs Jenny Lawton said “We are so proud of our team. We have worked so hard and are really pleased with the outcome.”
The salon can be found just off Friar Street and will be situated in the middle of the new Station Hill development.
Mrs Jenny Lawton, 39, and Ms Jane Sneddon, 44, took over the salon in 2020 after having both been trainees there previously.
Mrs Lawton said: “We both trained here and now we own it! Jane has been at the salon for 27 years, and I’ve always been in the hairdressing industry. You could say I’ve come full circle.”
They will have owned the salon for four years in January, but the business has been open for 42 years.
Ever since the pair took over the business four years prior, the salon has managed to scoop major awards without fail each year.
“We are so proud of our team for achieving this for the fourth year running,” Mrs Lawton said. “We’ve had different awards each year but have always managed to walk away with something.”
Despite both owners now managing the business that they once worked for, both still consider themselves very “hands-on” when it comes to hairdressing.
“We both still do hair,” Mrs Lawton said. “We’re both very hands-on when it comes to our clients.”
The team at Ruby Red is made up of nine stylists and four apprentices. They offer a range of different services with many team members specialising in one area.
Mrs Lawton said: “We do both men's and women’s hair, there’s nothing we don’t do.”
Other than working full-time managing the salon, both women have families of their own.
Mrs Lawton has two children and a husband, and Ms Sneddon has four children, a fiancé, and several step children.
