Revellers on a night out in Reading could soon be able to tuck into one of the town’s most popular burger restaurants into the early hours.
American fast food chain Wendy’s opened in the town centre in 2021 as the chain returned to the U.K.
Wendy’s could stay open until 2am during the weekend, giving revellers a chance to eat their favourite burgers.
Wendy’s is currently open from 7am to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and 7am to 11pm Monday to Thursday and 8am to 11pm on Sundays.
Now, the burger chain has won approval to open from 6.30am to 2am Thursday to Saturday, which is prime time for people enjoying nights out in the town.
The extension of hours was given consent after Wendys submitted a planning application for the change to Reading Borough Council.
The plan was submitted in July and approved this month, subject to a number of conditions.
While opening until 2am has been deemed acceptable by the council’s planning department, Wendy’s will require licensing consent to operate later, as the sale of food and soft drinks after 11pm is a licensable activity.
Condition 6 of the planning consent states: “This approval does not imply or give favour to the proposal being acceptable from a licensing perspective as venue licensing is considered under separate legislative requirements and in accordance with the Council’s licensing policies and objectives.
“As such, any application for licensing will be considered on its own merits.”
