A 23-year-old has been arrested after reports that a woman in her 40s was raped next to Royal Berkshire Hospital.
The woman reported she was raped in a nearby alleyway between Crown Street and St Giles just after 11pm on Wednesday, November 22.
Thames Valley Police attended the scene and a scene watch was put in place.
The force said the victim met a man outside the hospital who asked her for a cigarette.
She gave him a cigarette and then left with him.
They then walked to the alleyway where they began consensual kissing before the offender proceeded to rape her.
A 23-year-old man from Reading was arrested on Wednesday, November 29 on suspicion of rape, theft and possession of a controlled drug of class B, namely cannabis.
The arrested man has been released on police bail until February 26 while investigations continue.
