A call has been made for the government to act to help those living at risk of flooding in Reading.

There is a flood risk in the town as the meeting place of the Kennet and the River Thames, and a risk from surface water flooding caused by heavy rainfall.

Storms this month has led to the flooding of homes and businesses close to River Thames.

Now, Matt Rodda, the Labour MP for Reading East, has called on the government to do more to help the victims of flooding and those whose homes are at risk.

Mr Rodda said: “Large areas of Reading were flooded in recent weeks, and obviously this is taking a huge toll on many residents, properties have been threatened and in some cases flooded.

“I am asking for people to talk to me about the issues they are facing, and I’m calling on the government to do more to help people whose homes are liable to flooding or at risk of flooding.

“Please do fill in my form and let me know what you think so I can raise your issues in Parliament.”

Suggestions to manage the flood risk contained in the survey include creating a channel under Reading Bridge and floodwater meadows.

Compensation for property flooding is typically covered by insurance.
