Reports have come in that Greggs on Whitley Street is closing for good this weekend.
A member of staff at the popular chain bakery has confirmed that the branch is sadly closing its doors after struggling to meet the surging rent prices.
Greggs Whitley Street will officially close for good this Saturday February 10 at 3 pm.
The member of staff said that their landlord has increased the rent so much that they would have to make an extra three thousand pounds a week to cover the cost.
They also said that staff that currently work at the Whitley Street site will be redistributed to other Greggs in the Reading area.
This news comes as many establishments in Berkshire are having to shut up shop due to the ongoing rise in rental prices.

Speaking to store attendee Sehar Khan, she said that the rent for the store has increased so much that they had no option but to close.
"They increased the rent by fifty percent," she said. "It's so difficult for small independent businesses like ours."
