An all-female team is set to take over one of Reading most renowned and celebrated pubs following an exciting six-figure refurbishment.
The Palmer Tavern, located on Wokingham Road stands in a prominent position opposite Palmers Park.
Following the news that the previous team would be taking over The Three Tuns, the Chronicle discovered that Samantha Lane and her team from the Royal Albion will be making the jump into the new venue.
Reading-born publican, Samantha, took over the Royal Albion in November 2022 with the hope of bringing the struggling pub back to life.
Despite putting a stop to the problems which plagued the Oxford Road pub and seeing an upturn in sales, the team has made the exciting decision to move on to ‘greener pastures’.
“We’re all so excited,” Samantha said. “This is a bigger opportunity and a chance for a brighter future and better prospects for the whole team compared to what we had at The Royal Albion.
“We will be moving into a completely renovated pub which we will be able to put our mark on."
Green King has announced that the Palmer Tavern is currently undergoing a significant six-figure refurbishment which will transform the pub for the local community.
Alongside a complete interior revamp, the garden will be transformed to include a heated seating area, a wide-screen TV, and room for a variety of activities and events.
Samantha has described the new interior as ‘very quirky and stylish but still in keeping with a casual sports bar theme.’
A spokesperson for Greene King said: “The pub will be an ideal meeting place for locals, couples, and families seeking a great pub experience. We look forward to sharing further details on the opening, which is planned for this spring, when possible.”
Samantha explained: “We are so keen to get involved in the local community in the area, which will include local charities and churches.
“All of the events and entertainment that I organised to take part in the Royal Albion will move over to Palmer Tavern. This includes the Reading X-Factor event, weekly entertainment, the festival on the May bank holiday, and family fun days throughout the year.
“I am excited to get involved in the local community and create a home away from home for our customers.”
The Palmer Tavern will officially re-open on Friday, March 22.
