More homes are to be built as part of a huge 1,200-home development in Shinfield, after Wokingham Borough Council gave the go-ahead last week.
Seven homes – a mixture of three and four bedroom houses – are to be built by housing developer Vistry at the Shinfield Meadows development. They will be directly east of a planned new Lidl supermarket, at the roundabout where Hollow Lane connects with Arborfield Road.
Thrive Architects says the homes are part of plans to ‘create a vibrant local centre at the heart of the community’ as a major development in Shinfield takes shape.
The houses are part of much larger plans to build a 1,200-home development known as Shinfield West.

The overall plan was approved by Wokingham Borough Council in 2012. But more detailed plans for each ‘parcel’ of the development each needed further approval in ‘reserved matters’ planning applications.
The seven homes are part of the third and final phase – the ‘local centre’ – which also features a Lidl supermarket.
A separate reserved matters planning application for the Lidl was approved by the council in December 2022. And plans to build 25 homes on the other side of the supermarket – the west – were approved by the council’s planning committee in October 2021.
