When visiting your favorite restaurant for a bite to eat or catching up with friends in that popular coffee spot, do you ever know how clean the premises are?
From the safety and quality of the food handling to the cleanliness of facilities everything counts when ordering or buying food and drink from a retail or hospitality premises.
This is why the Reading Borough Council and the Food Standards Agency has a guide when inspecting businesses in their regular inspections.
Every establishment in the county, as well as the country, is permitted to undergo hygiene inspections by their local authority to see whether or not their premises are fit for purpose.
The hygiene score system is as follows:
- 0 – Urgent improvement is necessary
- 1 – Major improvements is necessary
- 2 – Improvements necessary
- 3 – Business generally satisfactory
- 4 – Business good on assessment
- 5 – Business is seen as very good
Although many food establishments and shops selling food and drink make it a priority to bring their cleanliness up to snuff, a small number require urgent improvement after receiving a score of zero from health inspectors.
We often do stories celebrating restaurants that have been awarded a five-star rating, but are you familiar with the places in Berkshire that have been given a score of ZERO?
Although some areas like Bracknell Forest and Wokingham have no zero-star hygiene restaurants, Reading and West Berkshire haven’t been quite so lucky.
Here are the businesses that have been told that they require 'Major Improvement' by the inspectors at Reading Borough Council.
