A resident who lives on a road known as a hotspot for car accidents is becoming increasingly concerned.
Whitley Wood Lane Junction has caused numerous road collisions in just the past year.
Clive Young, a resident of Whitley Wood Lane who lives just two houses away from the junction, says that he has witnessed an accident every month since moving into his property.
The most recent collision was last week on Tuesday February 27 where two cars crashed into each other whilst trying to overtake.
“The issue is there’s a constant stream of traffic coming from the A33 going East to West along the road,” Mr Young said.
“Because of the number of cars, they don’t give way to vehicles trying to exit from Whitley Wood Lane Junction so people are stuck there for quite some time.”
Mr Young said this waiting time causes many motorists to take a risk and pull out onto the stream of incoming traffic which results in crashes.
“I live just two houses away from the junction and it really does affect the whole street,” he said. “There’s debris literally everywhere. Smashed lights, bits of car bumpers.
“These all create puncture hazards. Something really needs to be done.”
Mr Young suggested that there should be a new set of lights on the junction to give the traffic some more control.
“A mini roundabout would cause the same problem of constantly giving way and no one getting the chance to pull out.”
He also relayed another problem with traffic in the area. Mr Young said that in the morning on the right turn that goes up to the A33 or M4 the traffic lights are out of phase.
He said that they are really slow and let only around three or four cars through at any given point.
Cllr Paul Fishwick has sent in the following statement:
“We are aware of a recent traffic collision at this junction and are investigating this with Thames Valley Police to ascertain the likely cause.
“The findings from the police investigation will help us have a comprehensive understanding of the circumstances surrounding this collision. We are also examining any emerging patterns or trends that may be contributing to the safety of this junction.
“We understand the importance of addressing these concerns promptly and if there is a solution available to address the specific causes of these incidents identified from the police reports, we are committed to exploring all available options to enhance safety for road users.”
