A community lido is set to reopen this week as the warm weather starts to sweep across the county.
Northcroft Lido in Newbury was launched in August 2023 to the excitement of many local leisure centre users with a £5 million refurbishment.
As the warmer weather begins to descend, Everyone Active has decided to open the heated, Olympic-length fully accessible swimming pool from Thursday, March 28.
Alongside the pool, families will be able to enjoy the interactive splash pad and racer flumes as the weather starts to warm up and the ground water improves during the Summer months.
Temperatures this week are to reach highs of 15 degrees with a slight chance of rain.
The iconic 150-year-old facility was revamped to include a decking area where people can relax, complete with changing huts and fully accessible changing rooms inside the leisure centre.
The heated pool is perfect for ‘al-fresco’ swimming during the Spring and Summer months.
Richard May, Contract Manager at Everyone Active, said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome the community back to Northcroft Lido for this phased reopening.
“It has been more than seven months since we unveiled the revamped facility and after a successful season in 2023, we are confident that this year will be just as brilliant – or even better.
“With a host of fun activities planned for all ages, interests and abilities, we encourage people from West Berkshire and beyond to come and enjoy the fantastic facility that is Northcroft Lido.”
This will be the Lido’s first full season following its launch in Summer 2023. A variety of family fun days and events are set to take place through the season.
The lido was built in 1870 and was once considered to be one of the biggest outdoor pools in the south of England.
Janine Lewis, West Berkshire’s Executive Member for Public Health, Culture, Leisure, Sport & Countryside, said: “It’s a truly iconic facility that is embedded in the history of Newbury and it has been wonderful to not only bring it to the present, but to ensure that it is there for the future and for generations of people to enjoy.
“The reaction from people when we opened last year following the transformation was incredible and I can’t wait for people to start enjoying it again.”
