A Reading publican, who has recently re-opened an established pub following a £360K revamp has said that the new franchise concept is the way forward for pub owners.
The Palmer Tavern was opened by Samantha Lane alongside her all-female team on Friday, March 22.
Located on Wokingham Road, this will be Greene King’s first ever ‘Nest Pub’ franchise concept to open in the UK.
Reading-born Samantha, previously ran The Albion pub in Reading where she prided herself on her female-led business.
Samantha said: “I am so excited to welcome the community into the pub to offer a classic boozer environment with a chic twist.
“A lot of pubs have been forced to move towards a more food-based concept in order to stay open and have lost their original character.
“With the new Greene King franchise concept, I can offer customers that traditional environment with the support of the company, and still be wet-led.”
Alex De Araujo, Business Development Manager for Greene King Pub Partners, said: “I am delighted with our transformation of The Palmer Tavern. Our £360,000 investment has transformed the pub into something truly special. I cannot wait for regulars, locals and other guests to visit the new and improved pub.
“As a Nest Pub – The Palmer Tavern will be all about great drink, great service and great experience. It will show all the live sport and will provide tasty pizzas as a food option for pub goers looking for a bite to eat.”
Lane added: “I am so excited to start working with people in the local community including students at Reading College to create a friendly and welcoming home from home.”
