A woman who was found to be driving under the influence of cannabis when her car struck a three-year-old child is appealing to magistrates to let her keep her licence.

Shanice Medford, 32, of Garston Crescent, Calcot, admitted driving under the influence of cannabis at a court hearing in March.

On September 13, 2023, she was driving her Range Rover when she was involved in a crash with the young boy who was walking along Royal Avenue, Calcot.

The victim suffered serious head injuries, and was hospitalised.

When police tested Medford at the scene, they found traces of a cannabis by-product in her system.

Despite her guilty plea to a charge of driving under the influence of drugs, the defendant wants to keep her licence.

She will appear at Reading Magistrates' Court to make her case on July 12.
