Thames Valley Police have confirmed that they believe that recent reports of a person going into the water on the River Thames were untrue.

The alleged incident was reported to police at around 10pm on Monday, May 13.

Police attended the scene at Kings Meadow alongside Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue.

Following further investigations and enquiries, including searches of CCTV, speaking to witnesses and checking whether there were any missing people that matched this incident, they concluded that this incident did not happen.

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Beverley Pearse, said: “Following this investigation we are now satisfied that this incident did not happen and that no one went into the water on Monday evening.

“We have now concluded our investigation and we would like to thank the public for their support and apologies for any inconvenience or concern this caused.

“It was necessary for us to deploy appropriate search and rescue teams at the time and we would like to thank our partners at Berkshire Fire and Rescue for responding accordingly”.
