A Reading community group have hit out against proposed temporary road closures during filming at an old printworks building.
According to a letter sent to businesses in the industrial estate on Tessa Road, diversions have been proposed from May 22nd to May 25 for filming of the former Reading Post.
The film company are currently in talks with both Reading Borough Council and Berkshire Film Office to coordinate filming.
The alternative route proposed by the makers of Greenland: Migration’ whilst Tessa Road is closed includes sending vehicles via Randolph Road, Addison Road and Cardiff Road.
The Bell Tower Community Association have come together with concerns about the impact this will have on the area of Central Reading.
This community group is an independent organisation run by volunteers to help bring people together, improve the local environment and represent the views of the local residents.
Bell Tower Chairperson Liz Hobbs said: “The alternative route is impractical because of two sharp bends, one between Randolph and Addison Roads and the other in Addison Road. Lorries will simply be unable to navigate them.
“This means the scheme will work neither for residents nor for businesses because the residents will have the nuisance of heavy traffic going through narrow residential streets, potentially hitting parked cars, and the businesses will have their deliveries stuck in Addison Road or sorting out insurance claims.”
The group are calling on the council to reject the road closure plan, or to suggest another route that would affect a minimum number of residents and be suitable for lorries and heavy vehicles.
The Bell Association have contacted Thames Ward Councillor Adele Barnett-Ward and Reading Borough Council about these developments.
The Reading Chronicle have contacted Reading Borough Council for a comment.
