A new coffee shop will be taking over a much-loved independent bake house that has since sadly closed down.

The Baker's Lounge Bar which is situated at 21 Northbrook Street, Newbury, was advertised on Savills as looking for a new tenancy.

Since then it has been confirmed that a successful chain of coffee houses will be taking over the occupancy.

Esquires coffee shop will now be running from the same building. The popular franchise has dozens of coffee houses all over the UK.

Despite the news of the imminent coffee house causing excitement throughout the community, some people have expressed their open disdain on the matter.

Many have expressed that they feel that the independent pasty shop that held the tenancy previously will be sorely missed.

Some have also said that the fact that the business will be replaced with a chain is a real shame for the town.

This comes as many independents have had to shut up shop in Newbury and its surrounding area due to the rising costs of rent.

A staple of Reading's independent businesses sadly closed its doors for good last year.

As previously reported, The Grumpy Goat, located on Union Street, closed after its landlord gave it a week's notice to vacate the premises.

It has been a staple on the high street for 10 years, but in an Instagram post the team at the Grumpy Goat said: “All good things must come to an end, but sometimes sooner than we would like."
