The Reform Party in Reading is mulling taking action over an apparently fake X/Twitter account that has been attributed to one of their MP candidates.
Andrew Williams is the Reform UK candidate for the Reading Central constituency for the general election this year.
But Mr Williams has been hit by allegations accusing him of racism and reposts of sexually explicit material on an X/Twitter profile that has been attributed to him.
The account @ajw_106 has been attributed to Mr Williams, as the profile name for the account is Andrew Williams.
Content on the account include reposts of Reform UK and GB News posts.
The posts have been seized on by the X/Twitter account @reformexposed.
Reform Exposed has accused Mr Williams of racism and reposts of sexual material.
Demonstrating claims of ‘racism’ Reform Exposed screenshotted @ajw_106 reposts reflecting on video footage of London “before immigrants arrived” and “before diversity and multiculturalism destroyed it.”
@ajw_106 has reposts from Paul Golding, the leader of Britain First, who was convicted under Section 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000 of refusing to give police access to his mobile phone on his return from a political trip to Russia.
Reform Exposed also accused Mr Williams of reposting Tommy Robinson, who himself has been accused of Islamophobia.
A repost from Mr Robinson’s X/Twitter states: “It’s time to decide what future you want for your daughters” alongside a suspected AI image of a White schoolgirl flanked by hijab-wearing girls in a classroom.
However, Mr Williams has denied having a X/Twitter account on two occasions to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
The allegations were seen on Monday, June 10.
Asked whether he had an account the following day, Mr Williams said: “No I don’t.”
In a follow-up enquiry on Wednesday, Mr Williams said: “This is fake. I don’t even have an X account. Looks like I’m the victim of a dirty tricks campaign.”
Reform UK is mulling legal action against @reformexposed.
Alan Gulliver, Reform’s election agent for Reading said: “I have been in contact with X regarding these posts that have been created regarding Andy Williams, when I hear back from them I will advise him it is up to him what course of action he takes in regards to the X profile posting about him.”
Mr Gulliver added that legal action could be taken.
The X account has been attributed to Mr Williams as it is linked to him on the ‘Who can I vote for?’ a democracy website which obtains information from volunteers using council websites and other sources.
A member of the Democracy Club which runs the WhoCanIVoteFor site said the X account was removed as soon as they were made aware of it (slightly over 24 hours after it was added).
A disclaimer also states: “The data on this website is crowd-sourced and may not be complete (or may contain inaccuracies).
