Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in Reading.

At around 2.10am this morning June 16, an argument took place in St Marys Butts between two groups of people.

This argument escalated to a fight and a man received a serious laceration to his neck, which required hospital treatment and surgery.

The victim, a man aged in his thirties, remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Two men, aged 45 and 46, both of no fixed abode, have been arrested on suspicious of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and they remain in police custody.

Detective Inspector Bill Sykes said: “I am appealing to anybody who was in the area of St Marys Butts at around the time of the incident to please get in touch if you witnessed what happened.
