Drivers have been informed that several M4 road closures have been called off due to work being ahead of schedule.

In April 2024, National Highways announced months of lengthy road closures on the M4 between junction 11 and 12 both eastbound and westbound.

Following two months of restoration work on Burghfield Bridge, an updated list of closures has been released.

The full weekend closure on the M4 - junction 11 and 12 eastbound - has been cancelled this weekend (Friday, June 21 to Sunday June 23).

Further road closures on the M4 in June and July include.

June

  • 17 – 27 June - Eastbound overnight full closures
  • 28 – 1 July - Westbound full weekend closure (from 9pm Fri – 6am Mon)

July

  • 1 – 4 July - Westbound overnight full closures
  • 5 – 11 July - Eastbound overnight full closures
  • 12 – 15 July - Westbound full weekend closure (from 9pm Fri – 6am Mon)

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “Maintenance, including work on bridge bearings and fresh paintwork, is vital to ensure the long-term safety and integrity of the M4. Drivers are advised to follow diversions and allow extra time for their journeys and can stay updated by checking the National Highways webpage and Twitter/X.

“We thank everyone for their patience while we carry out this work.”

Westbound signed diversions will be in place via M4 J11, onto A33, A4 and back on the M4 via J12.
