Police have released an urgent appeal for witnesses after a man and woman were attacked in Newbury.

The incident occurred at around 10pm on Monday, June 24 on the corner between Newtown Road and Porchester Road.

Seven young men exited a blue Seat Ibiza and proceeded to assault the 17-year-old man and 18-year-old woman.

After emptying the victim’s bag, a mobile phone was stolen.

Investigating officer PC Shannon Mackley, based at Newbury Police Station, said: “I understand this assault may be concerning but we believe there is no risk to the wider public.

 “If you have any CCTV footage or any dash-cam footage if you were in the area around the time, I’d also ask that you check any recordings in case it has captured something that could assist our investigation.”

An 18-year-old man from Highclere has been arrested on suspicion of assault and theft in relation to the incident and has been released on bail.
