The result for Earley and Woodley was the second closest in Berkshire, with Ms Yang beating out Conservative candidate Pauline Jorgensen by 848 votes.

Only the contest in Bracknell was closer, with Labour's Peter Swallow beating out incumbent Conservative MP James Sunderland by 784 votes.

Councillor Jorgensen (Conservative, Hillside) is expected to resume her role as the leader of the opposition of Wokingham Borough Council, clashing with the Liberal Democrats and Labour councillors in the council chamber at Shute End.

The last result to come in for the Reading area was for the newly formed Reading West and Mid Berkshire constituency.

Perceived as a three-way battle between Labour, the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats, Labour's Olivia Bailey ultimately prevailed.

Mrs Bailey won with a majority of 1,362 votes against Conservative candidate Ross Mackinnon.

Kate Bosley, the Reform UK candidate came in third place with 6,260, beating out Helen Belcher for the Liberal Democrats coming in fourth with 5,103 votes.

Mrs Bailey previously stood for the old Reading West constituency at the general election in 2017 against then-sitting Conservative MP Alok Sharma.

She posted on X/Twitter on Monday, July 8 from Reading train station for her first full day in Parliament as an MP.

Meanwhile, cllr Mackinnon (Conservative, Bradfield) is also the 'Shadow Leader' of West Berkshire Council, a similar position to the one cllr Jorgensen holds in Wokingham Borough.

Similarly, cllr Mackinnon is expected to go back to the West Berkshire council chamber at its offices in Market Place, Newbury.

He will be joined by Carolyne Culver, the Green candidate and a councillor for Ridgeway ward on West Berkshire Council.
