The following cases were heard at Reading or Slough Magistrates’ Court.
OSMOND MANSARAY, 21, of Don Cose, Tilehurst, convicted of driving in Kenavon Drive, Reading, without third-party insurance on March 25, 2023. Must pay a £169, a £68 victim surcharge and £90 in court costs. Driving licence endorsed with six points.
AATIF ARIF, 34, of Northumberland Avenue, Reading, convicted of theft of a pedal cycle to the value of £500 in Reading on November 23, 2021. Also convicted of theft of an electronic scooter to the value of £500 in Reading on November 11, 2021. Also convicted of failing to surrender to court bail on January 22, 2024. Must pay £500 in compensation, £85 in court costs, a £36 fine and a £34 victim surcharge.
MOHAMMED MUSTAK, 50, of Ambrook Road, Reading, convicted of failing to assist the police in identifying a driver when required to at Banbury on August 29, 2023. Must pay a £346 fine and £90 in court costs. Driving licence endorsed with six points.
SARAH COOKE, 54, of Kestrel Way, Reading, convicted of drug-driving in Castle Street, Reading, on October 19, 2023. Cocaine was detected in his system. Disqualified from driving for three years. Must pay a £120 fine, £60 in court costs and a £48 victim surcharge.
DAMON COUSINS, 50, of Blenheim Gardens, Reading, convicted of drug-driving at Reading on October 26, 2023. Also convicted of driving while disqualified at Reading on the same day. Also convicted of driving without third-party insurance at Reading on the same day. Traces of a cocaine byproduct were detected in his system. Jailed for 14 weeks, suspended for 12 months. Disqualified from driving for 36 months. Must complete up to 20 days of rehabilitation activities.
ANDREW BROOKER, 35, of no fixed abode, convicted of possessing crack cocaine at Reading on March 12, 2024. Also convicted of possessing heroin at Reading on December 6, 2023. Also convicted of possessing cannabis at Reading on the same day. Also convicted of burgling the Natwest branch in Reading on February 3, 2024. Must pay £363.47 in compensation, £85 in court costs and a £640 fine. All drugs to be forfeited and seized.
TOBY NETHERCOT, 26, of Montague Street, Reading, convicted of speeding at Burghfield on September 7, 2023. Was filmed travelling at 68mph in a 40mph zone. Must pay a £646 fine, £90 in court costs and a £258 victim surcharge. Driving licence endorsed with six points.
PAWEL TRYNISZEWSKI, 47, of Merton Road South, Reading, convicted of common assault at Reading on February 24, 2024. Also convicted of assault by beating at Reading on February 23, 2024. Also convicted of committing fraud by false representation at Reading on February 24, 2024. Jailed for 10 weeks. Must pay a £154 victim surcharge. Given a restraining order not to contact a named other.
DAVID WRIGHT, 46, of Paddock Heights, Twyford, convicted of stealing cable to the value of £8,160 in Earley. Jailed for 23 weeks, suspended for 12 months. Must complete 200 hours of unpaid work. Must also pay £300 in court costs and a £154 victim surcharge.
PAUL HUTTON, 44, of South Street, Reading, convicted of stealing three t-shirts to the value of £297 from John Lewis in Reading on March 9, 2024. Also convicted of stealing headphones to the value of £349.99 from the Apple Store in Reading on February 16, 2024. Also convicted of stealing handbags to the value of £444 from John Lewis in Reading on March 30, 2024. Also convicted of stealing clothing to the value of £155 from JD Sports in Reading on March 22, 2024. Jailed for six weeks.
It is established in the UK that court cases should be heard in public. This principle of open justice is acclaimed on a number of grounds: as a safeguard against judicial error and as a deterrent to perjury, to assist the deterrent function of trials and to permit the revelation of matters of public interest.
