A supermarket giant has announced that one of their Reading stores will be closing temporarily to make way for a major revamp.

Located on School Road, Tilehurst, the Co-op is a thriving shop within the village, providing shoppers and residents with fresh food and produce.

After receiving a massive investment, the shop will be transformed and relaunched with a fresh new look.

According to a spokesperson from the Co-op, the store will close temporarily on Wednesday, July 31 from 5pm.

A temporary pop-up store will open - located within the original store. This will continue to provide customers with all of their everyday essentials.

A spokesperson for Co-op, added: “The whole team is delighted to have the opportunity to invest in transforming our Tilehurst store.

"We will have a temporary store to continue to serve the community with their everyday groceries and essentials during the majority of the works, then we look forward to welcoming our members and customers into their new-look Co-op.

"We are working to develop the range, choice and services to create a compelling offer to serve the community, conveniently.”

Although the opening date has not been announced yet, it is expected the relaunch to take place in September.

In April 2023, the Co-op submitted a planning proposal to Reading Borough Council to undergo a rebranding and to request an extension of their opening hours.

Part of the changes include moving from its traditional colours of lime green, blue and white and trading under the name ‘The Co-operative food’ to simply ‘Co-op’ with a new design.

The branch also is adding a new sign to the store, ‘Welcome to Tilehurst’s Co-op’.
