A former Wycombe Wanderers winger has been jailed for nearly 20 years after being found guilty of two counts of rape.
Nathan Aston, 37, who played 13 times for the Chairboys in a very forgettable spell during the 2008/09 season, was described as ‘manipulative’ by a judge as he was sentenced on July 16 – six weeks after being convicted for his crimes.
During the trial at Reading Crown Court back in May, it was heard that the disgraced footballer, who also had spells at Charlton Athletic and Fulham in the Premier League, raped a woman in the back of his car in 2015 before going on to attack another female in 2023.
Ashton denied all the allegations against him, insisting that they were fabricated.
However, jurors did not accept his defence, returning a majority verdict on both charges, following a week-long trial.
Speaking at his sentencing this week, Judge Mathew Turner said: “His remorse, I am afraid to say, I treat as limited in this case.
“You used your physical strength to do what you wanted with no empathy or compassion for your victims.
“You are manipulative and focused on yourself and your own sexual satisfaction.”
In 2015, Ashton picked a woman up in Reading and drove her out into the countryside.
There, he demanded that she go into the back seat where he raped her.
He then told the woman after the attack: “You’ll live.”
While the victim did not report the incident to police for five years, she went to a sexual health clinic a day after the rape, where she divulged what had happened.
Ashton would then sexually attack another woman eight years later in 2023.
The victim revealed that she had gone to sleep in a friend’s bed, only to be woken up by the criminal forcing himself on her.
She demanded that he stopped, but he ignored her pleas.
The woman reported the crime to the police not long after the raped had occurred.
During his sentencing on July 16, one of the victims said: “The impact of what happened to me will be with me forever - the conviction does not free me of that, nothing can.
“The one thing that has kept me going throughout my ordeal and my one and only reason for being here is my children.”
She also called Ashton a ‘vile human being’.
As well as being imprisoned, Ashton has been given a restraining order and will be on the Sex Offenders' Register for life.
It is also not the first time the one-time Premier League appearance maker has been in trouble with the law.
In 2016, he was jailed for 15 years for conducting and carrying out a spate of armed robberies at numerous betting shops across High Wycombe and Watford.
He took part in the spree where he was armed with a gun, alongside former professional footballer, Ohmar Pike.
The reason for his crimes was to settle debts of around £100,000 after he developed a gambling addiction during his playing days.
At the time of his conviction eight years ago, he was already handed a three-month suspended sentence after pleading guilty to stalking his ex-girlfriend in August 2015.
