A convenience store at a precinct of shops in Whitley could sell alcohol to customers later at night.

A company called Northumberland Food and Wine has applied to sell alcohol from 7am to 11pm each day at the Today's Local shop in Northumberland Avenue.

The Today's Local is located next to the Curry Chef and Dragon Garden takeaways in a precinct of shops.

The shop and takeaways are located opposite The Salon Hair & Beauty and The Racket Shop at the precinct, which are used by neighbours in Whitley and Whitley Wood.

Northumberland Food and Wine's application has been submitted to Reading Borough Council's licensing department.

A statutory consultation is currently being held into the sale of alcohol at the store.

You can respond to the consultation by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk. The deadline for representations on Wednesday, August 7.

The Today's Local was previously run as the C&K Convenience Store, which advertised the sale of chilled beer, wine and food from 6.30am to 10pm each day.

It is understood that  Northumberland Food and Wine is a new business, meaning a fresh licensing application to sell alcohol at the store had to be submitted.
