An incredible Berkshire man recently opened up his very own coffee shop that also helps those in the area who may be in financial difficulty.
Max Mcann, 29, opened Mcann's Coffee Shop in the Kennet Centre, Newbury a few months prior and within that time has set up numerous things to help the community.
Having grown up relying on food banks and free school meals, Mr Mcann felt that he wanted to do something for families who may be in the same situation.
"I've always loved coffee and used to roast my own coffee in a mini roaster at home so I thought why not start up a coffee shop," he said.
After acquiring a two floor unit at the Kennet Centre, the upstairs floor being dedicated to his other business 'Blendship,' the downstairs section seemed like the perfect fit for a community coffee shop.
Mr Mcann said "I did a challenge called £300 to a coffee shop in thirty days and somehow we managed to turn an empty shell of a unit into our now thriving Mcann's Coffee."
The coffee shop has been open for around three months and regularly hosts charitable schemes to help those in need.
One that has been majorly successful is supplying local children with free packed lunches during school holidays.
The coffee shop provided free lunches for children on every day of the half term earlier this year, and has now announced that it will be doing the same thing over the summer holidays.
They will also be running free events for families such as face painting, mindful drawing, other arts and crafts, and entertainers will come in to read to the children whilst in fancy dress.
"I know that when children are off school it can be very difficult for the parents who are struggling financially. It's particularly stressful," Mr Mcann said.
The coffee shop also has a scheme in which customers can fund items for people who may not be able to afford a hot drink and food.
"At the very start of the business we introduced our pay it forward initiative which means that anyone who comes into our coffee shop can get their drinks and their food but if they are in a position to they can pay forward food for others," Mr Mcann said.
He said that this will then go up onto their 'pay forward board' and anyone in the area who is struggling financially can go into the coffee shop and get food and a hot drink.
A percentage of Mcann's Coffee's profits also go to West Berkshire food bank.
