A local man in his twenties used the help of other residents to build his very own coffee shop - for just £300.
Max Mcann, 29, opened Mcann's Coffee Shop in the Kennet Centre, Newbury a few months prior and within that time has set up numerous things to help the community.
Having grown up relying on food banks and free school meals, Mr Mcann felt that he wanted to do something for families who may be in the same situation.
"We didn't have a budget to do anything with the downstairs unit. We had used the one upstairs for Blendship my food seasoning business," Mr Mcann said.
"It was literally just an empty concrete floor, a shell of a retail unit."
Mr Mcann said that as he had always loved coffee he really wanted to build a community cafe.
He then set up the challenge '£300 to a coffee shop in 30 days' and somehow they managed to turn the space into a cafe within the allotted time frame.
"It's a community coffee shop built by the community and for the community," Mr Mcann continued. "It was completely built by local businesses. We had people get involved with the flooring, and loads of people chipped in."
Materials were also donated from local retailers, like a local marble company that donated marble to fit on the coffee counter.
A dishwasher was also donated by a local wholesaler along with a coffee machine and a little TV for their menu.
Mcann's Coffee Shop opened its doors for the first time in April, and the hub has a considerable amount of initiates that sought to help those in need.
These include free packed lunch meals for children and free activities for kids over the summer holidays.
The coffee shop also has a scheme in which customers can fund items for people who may not be able to afford a hot drink and food.
"At the very start of the business we introduced our pay it forward initiative which means that anyone who comes into our coffee shop can get their drinks and their food but if they are in a position to they can pay forward food for others," Mr Mcann said.
He said that this will then go up onto their 'pay forward board' and anyone in the area who is struggling financially can go into the coffee shop and get food and a hot drink.
A percentage of Mcann's Coffee's profits also go to West Berkshire food bank.
